Hi, I’m Dr. Tristan Hardy. I am a specialist in genetic testing and pregnancy loss, and I would love to speak with you about carrier screening.

What is carrier screening?

Carrier screening assess reproductive couples to see if they have an increased chance of having a child with a genetic condition.

When planning pregnancy, you can easily take a test with your partner to see if you are in the 1-2% of couples where this is the case. Knowing this ahead of time gives you the time to absorb the information and plan ahead.

How does it work?

On the next page, you can speak with an AI assistant I have trained to have the conversation I have with everyone who is planning pregnancy about carrier screening. If you want to organise genetic carrier screening, you can order the test that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine with our laboratory partner. We will request the test from the laboratory who will send saliva samples to your address.

Once you have returned your samples to the laboratory by mail, your results will be available in around 4 weeks. You will receive your results by email, and we will be in touch to organise a zoom appointment if you have an increased chance result. We can assist with planning testing during pregnancy, having IVF with embryo testing, or considering other reproductive options that fit with your values and plans.

We started this service to provide specialist level care without barriers.

The national study which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that screening for 1000+ genes identified 1 in 50 reproductive couples with a high chance of having a child with a significant medical condition. By contrast, testing for the 3 conditions covered by Medicare would have identified only 20% of these couples. Apart from the cost of the test, we believe that there should be no barrier to accessing good quality information and care for anyone who needs it.
